I’ve been waiting a week and a half for my dermatology results. I figured since Friday came and went, I wouldn’t hear until Monday. My doctor surprised me today (Saturday) with a phone call.

It turned out the eye rash came back negative and he said it was just an irritation. I am happy to report that since using a high-dose steroid cream it went away pretty quickly.

As for the “hole” in my nose, he could not find any cancer as suspected. However, he also did not find a normal result. He said that my sample looked like what you would find in a Lupus patient. He tried to see if those findings might coincide with AntiSynthetase Syndrome, but couldn’t find any evidence of that. He is sending my sample out for a second expert opinion. Adding a Lupus diagnosis would add on yet another overall rare issue of Mixed Connective Tissue disease….which basically just means I have more than one type.

nothing is simple

I am staying in contact with my docs locally and at UCSF. I have an appointment with my rheumy at UCSF on June 24th, so I suppose I’ll be collecting up the pathology reports, new labs reports, pulmonary function test results and my list of current symptoms to help him figure out what is happening and what, if anything, we need to do about it.

As much as people don’t want to hear the word cancer, the one I was facing would have been caught early, had very low chance of metastasizing, and would have been treated with a relatively simple procedure compared to what implications a second autoimmune disease could have on my overall health. I’m not freaking out or playing the “what if” game…but I’m certainly feeling a heavy heart right now with more uncertainty added to my life.
